What does it take?

There's a beggar on the corner
He lost his job
He screwed up, he cries
Has not seen his daughter in twenty-one years
He needs a train ticket, he's afraid of flying
He's asking me for money
And I give

A stray dog
Golden retriever
She's missing a leg
And she seems lost and hungry
She looks at me with big round eyes
And hops, wagging her tail
She's asking me for food
And I give

There's a girl in the bar
She's sad and takes another shot
Tequila
She just found her husband
With her best friend, breaking trust
Breaking heart
She talks and I listen
She needs a shoulder and a ride home
And I give

We're sitting at a table
And I notice your smile
And it makes me happy
But do you see me?
I am the nice guy around you
And I don't mind being that guy
And I'll give
But how do I get
Something in return
Without asking?

Can I take a little?

Wait another day

Sometimes I wonder where you are
“Where is my girl?” I whisper in the wind.
But than I realize I don’t know your name
And I don’t even know your face.
And I wait another day.

There are so many ordinary things in life
Things to deal with
And love shouldn’t be one of them.
Anything less than
Mad, passionate, extraordinary love
Is a waste of my time.

I am like a surfer waiting for the perfect wave.
Let it come to me.
And when you finally arrive.
Love me like a roaring sea.

Sometimes I wonder where she is
Where is my girl?

But than I realize I’ve never seen your smile
And I don’t recall your scent.
And I wait another day.

Where are you?

Before the storm

Before the storm

This morning I went swimming in the ocean
The water was cold, clear and calm
And so was I

On the sandy bottom lay something still
And it caught my eye.
Not glamorously shiny but dark as the night

Holding my breath and diving down
Deep and deeper into the unknown
I did not expect to find you there

Your smile took my breath away
And I drowned
In those watery blue eyes

From below I could see the light
And I loved
How the sun played with the color of your hair

Only for a moment you touched me
And I woke up
Laying on the sand

Later that night, while walking home
I thought
How am I going to tell where I've been today?
